Every item receives the specified checks. Define how checked parts are identified and kept separate from unchecked material. Checking every item does not mean checking every possible characteristic or detecting every possible defect.
An approved sampling plan
The defined sample informs a lot decision using agreed selection and acceptance rules. Confirm the plan with the responsible quality authority; a convenient percentage or an arbitrary number of parts is not a substitute.

Before dispatch, ask these three questions.
- Can each result be traced?Connect the requirement, part or lot, method and finding. Keep measured values where the plan calls for values.
- Do the quantities reconcile?Separate inspected parts from unchecked stock and avoid counting the same part in several disposition categories.
- Are exceptions still open?Record holds and missing checks explicitly. Obtain the authorised decision before the affected material moves.
1. Confirm exactly what is being released
Start with the part number, drawing revision, lot or batch identification and the quantity presented. Define the inspection stage and keep that identity attached to the records. If several revisions or lots are present, agree how they will be separated before any inspection starts.
2. Make every acceptance criterion usable
List the characteristics that must be checked and the requirement for each one. A dimensional requirement needs its units and limits. A visual requirement needs an agreed defect description, reference image or approved sample. Identify any special characteristics and the authority to contact when an instruction is ambiguous.
3. Confirm the inspection coverage
Agree whether the plan checks every part or uses sampling. Sampling supports a decision about a population from selected units; it is not evidence that every item was checked. Record the chosen plan, sample selection, quantities and decision rules. Use the customer-approved approach rather than choosing a percentage informally.
4. Review the method before recording a value
Match the method and instrument to the characteristic. Check the required instrument identification, calibration status, setup and environmental conditions. A displayed digit is not proof of measurement capability. Resolve method or capability questions before comparing a reading with a narrow tolerance.
5. Reconcile findings and material status
Record checked, accepted, rejected and held quantities according to the agreed categories. Keep uncertain or nonconforming parts identifiable and segregated. Do not silently replace an out-of-limit result with a recheck; retain the original finding and the authorised follow-up so the decision remains traceable.
6. Close the inspection with a clear disposition
Make incomplete checks and exceptions visible. Identify who can approve release, rework, return or another disposition. The engine-block demonstration includes six satisfied checks and four requiring review: the satisfied checks do not cancel the exceptions.
